Welcome Week for the 2024 TechWomen program was a whirlwind of excitement, connection, and inspiration as we kicked off an extraordinary journey with our Emerging Leaders. From their arrival to the culmination of their first week, every moment was filled with energy and anticipation.
Arrival Day and Welcome Orientation
Our Emerging Leaders arrived with enthusiasm at our host locations in Chicago and San Francisco, greeted by a flurry of activity and support. The Welcome Orientations, hosted in both cities by long-time fintech partner Chime, set the stage for the weeks ahead, offering a comprehensive overview of the program, key goals, and what to expect. This initial session was crucial in aligning everyone’s expectations and preparing them for the transformative experience that lay ahead.
Welcome Receptions
The Welcome Receptions, hosted by Autodesk in San Francisco and mHub in Chicago, were vibrant celebrations. Emerging Leaders, mentors, and the TechWomen team came together for an evening of networking, introductions, and setting the tone for a collaborative and supportive journey. These gatherings provided a fantastic opportunity for everyone to connect on a personal level and start building relationships that would be essential throughout the program.
Program Orientation
The virtual Program Orientation delved deeper into the intricacies of the TechWomen program. Participants learned about the various components of the program, including upcoming workshops, mentorship opportunities, and the overall structure. The orientation was designed to ensure that all participants were well-informed and excited for what’s to come.
Discovering Connections: Inclusion and Positionality
Building inclusive communities was the focus of the “Discovering Connections: Inclusion and Positionality” virtual event, led by Aubrey Blanche, founder of MathPath. Emerging Leaders took part in discussions and activities that fostered a deeper understanding of cultural humility and the importance of diverse perspectives. This session aimed to help them appreciate the richness of different identities and experiences, setting the stage for meaningful and respectful interactions throughout the program.
Empowering Women Leaders
The Leadership Workshop was another virtual highlight, led by Samantha Raniere of Raniere Consulting. Emerging Leaders focused on key competencies for advancing as women leaders, identifying their strengths and developing strategies for effective team leadership and decision-making. This workshop was instrumental in empowering them with actionable skills to lead with confidence and impact.
Building the Foundation for Impact
The Ideation Workshop, held virtually and led by Carly Speranza of Speranza Leadership Solutions, featured a keynote address by Rekha Pai of Capria Ventures and the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund. Emerging Leaders, supported by mentors, had the opportunity to start shaping their impact projects. Through brainstorming and strategizing within their country teams, they laid the groundwork for addressing pressing issues in their communities. This session was pivotal in turning their ideas into actionable plans and setting them on the path to creating meaningful change.
As Welcome Week came to a close, it was clear that the foundation for a remarkable program had been laid. With strong connections made and essential skills acquired, our Emerging Leaders are now ready to embark on the rest of their TechWomen journey with confidence, excitement and a network of support.
