The TechWomen delegation’s journey through Dushanbe, Tajikistan continued with a focus on green construction, sustainability, and furthering our commitment to promoting careers in STEM among women and youth.
“ICODE: Dive into Tech Education and Career Fair,” was a successful collaboration with American Spaces Dushanbe that brought together local IT academies and students for a day filled with enlightening talks, interactive workshops, panel discussions, and a career fair. Attendees explored topics such as developing a successful technical product roadmap, design thinking for tech startups, software development, and using AI effectively. The event emphasized the importance of building successful tech careers and featured a panel discussion on the journey into software engineering.
On Day 5, the delegation co-hosted a Green Construction roundtable, engaging local stakeholders in discussions to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable practices in construction projects throughout both Tajikistan and the U.S. The event, aimed at transferring knowledge, sharing best practices, enhancing technical expertise, and fostering collaboration, welcome remarks by local experts and an introduction to green construction in Tajikistan. From there, the delegation facilitated a case study on green construction in the U.S., followed by two engaging roundtables. The first focused on the best practices in surface water and groundwater connection in Tajikistan and the U.S. The second roundtable addressed water management strategies, including planning, design, construction, maintenance, and governance, with a case study from California. The event concluded with closing remarks, leaving participants with valuable insights and strategies for sustainable construction.
The final day of the TechWomen delegation’s visit kicked off with a collaborative event with the National Academy of Science of Tajikistan’s Women in Nuclear (WIN) group. The “Women in STEM Symposium” featured presentations on the work of WIN and TechWomen, highlighting efforts to attract more women to careers in science. Opening remarks emphasized the importance of societal support in ensuring the sustainability of women’s involvement in STEM. This was followed by presentations on the natural resources and solar power industry of Tajikistan and insights into the TechWomen program.
The symposium provided an opportunity for attendees to engage in small group networking, followed by closing remarks emphasizing the value of strengthening connections among women in STEM and providing information on how to apply for the TechWomen program.
In the afternoon, the delegation split into two groups, with one heading off to Alif Bank and another to Zipl.ai, where fellows and mentors would engage with business people and engineers in financial technology to share experiences and explore strategies for career advancement and growth.
At Alif Bank, the group received an orientation to the space, followed by opening remarks from a bank representative, highlighting the inclusive work environment at Alif Bank and the significant representation of female staff in the IT and development division. Then, a keynote speech was delivered on overcoming fear and achieving career advancement through skills upleveling and a growth mindset. Later, delegates led an engaging empowerment activity on discovering one’s superpower and leveraging it for personal and professional growth.
Meanwhile, at Zypl.ai delegates learned about their groundbreaking fintech services and exchanged insights on the latest trends and innovations in AI. The event featured presentations from Zypl.ai developers and a delegate-led panel discussion on “The Latest Trends in AI in Silicon Valley.”
These events concluded the formal TechWomen delegation to Tajikistan in April of 2024, which left a lasting impact on all involved. The delegation’s visit to Dushanbe concluded with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed commitment to fostering STEM-driven innovation, collaboration, and sustainability with women and youth in Tajikistan.
