TechWomen Mentors who participated in the 2014 Delegation Trips to Morocco and Rwanda met at the home of Cultural Mentor Terri Khonsari to relive memories from each trip. Terri first mentored with TechWomen in 2013 and participated in both of the delegation trips this year. She said she was greatly affected by all the individuals and groups TechWomen met with; her interactions with female students, technology professionals, and entrepreneurs in Rwanda and Morocco were culturally enriching, eye-opening, and inspiring. Not wanting to let the spirited energy of the trips wane, she decided to organize a reunion to help TechWomen staff and Mentor delegates reconnect and strengthen the bonds which deepened during the trips.
Here’s an hour-by-hour account of the festivities!
1:00 PM – Our host, Terri, opens her doors to the first group of arrivals.
1:15 PM – More TechWomen Mentors from all over the Bay Area begin trickling in. Did you know? 2014 was the first year the TechWomen went on two delegation trips. It was also the first year the program traveled to Sub-Saharan Africa!
2:00 PM – Mentors enjoy a potluck-style lunch of traditional African and Middle Eastern foods.
2:30 PM – Mentors reminisce about the delegation trips over lunch. Fun fact: 12 people, including Terri, went on both trips!
3:00 PM – Moroccan mint tea is served!
3:30 PM – The tables are cleared; it’s time for dessert.
4:00 PM – Stuffed, Mentors move their discussions outdoor to digest and take advantage of the warm weather.
5:00 PM – Before wrapping up the evening, Terri has a fun surprise for guests: a fortune teller!
6:00 PM – It’s time to go. What a memorable day! The combination of delicious food, rich conversation, and engaging company made the reunion a fitting way to reflect on the delegation trips. Thank you, Terri, for hosting us at your beautiful home!
