In the afternoon of our fourth day in Cameroon, we journeyed to Douala, arriving after dark in the country’s economic capital for the second leg of our delegation trip. Throughout our stay, we immersed ourselves in dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning experiences with our event collaborators and guests. Join us as we unravel the chronicles of part two of expedition, where we delve into the boundless potential of international exchange and collaborative endeavor.
The next morning, we set off for the Lycee Polyvalent de Bonbaeri bilingual school in Doula for a morning of hands-on STEM activities and empowering career lightning talks with young women from over 17 area schools. It was another expansive, unforgettable morning of youth engagement for the TechWomen delegation in Cameroon.
For our next stop, we headed over to the The American Corner in Doula, where we collaborated with the U.S. Embassy of Yaounde’s High Impacts program to craft an afternoon of mentoring with local trailblazers and technologists focused on entrepreneurship, climate change, critical thinking, community engagement and grassroots mobilization.
In the final day of our visit, we cohosted “Women in Entrepreneurship,” an event at St. Jerome Catholic University aimed at addressing business development, growth and sustainability, and the development of supportive networks among women in business and community entrepreneurs and leaders. The event included lightning talks, a panel discussion, skills table talks on topics including value proposition, digital presence, teambuilding, and monetization, and a keynote address from Rebecca Enonchong, FREng, Founder and CEO of AppsTech.
To close out the day and the business of the delegation trip, we enjoyed a very special diplomatic event, this time by attending a visit with Queen Clarisse Manga Bell of Sawa, a revered cultural and spiritual leader in Douala. The Queen shared insights about her vital role in the community, guided us through a hidden gem – a small museum nestled within the walls of her compound, exemplifying her dedication to the preservation of history and culture.
That evening, the delegation convened for one final community dinner to celebrate a week of connection, inspiration, and hard won gains in our effort to advance women’s empowerment, environmental and economic sustainability and international cooperation through STEM.
