TechWomen is proud to announce our partnership with Technovation, a global tech entrepreneurship program for young girls to build apps addressing real issues in their community. TechWomen Emerging Leaders have led the charge in launching the competition and getting girls involved in their home countries. To date, alumnae from nine program countries across all cohorts have mentored Technovation teams, including Cameroon, Jordan, Kenya, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, South Africa, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.
Empowering girls and encouraging innovation and the study of STEM are cornerstones of both TechWomen and Technovation. Emerging Leaders apply their expertise, mentor girls, and give back to their communities at home. With this in mind, the impact of our work is amplified. TechWomen Mentor Anar Simpson, Global Ambassador for Technovation, has been instrumental in introducing Emerging Leaders to the program during their time in the San Francisco Bay Area.
“Creating and running the Technovation challenge is no small task and the TechWomen from each of these countries—in many cases, multiple TechWomen from different cities—have collaborated and worked together and used their expertise and passion to impact other young women,” says Anar. “Hundreds of young girls are benefiting from their efforts, and the Technovation program continues its exponential growth and impact.”
Later this month, Technovation will hold the 2015 World Pitch Competition. Teams from across the globe with fly into San Francisco to pitch and compete for seed funding. TechWomen Director Arezoo Miot will speak on the day of the pitch event to share more about our work with Technovation. If you are interested in attending the World Pitch, you can register here.
