What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?
My most valuable contribution to my TechWomen mentorship stems from my experience mentoring and training junior developers, speaking at tech events and twitter spaces, and volunteering in customer care support at events. I excel in fostering growth mindsets, imparting technical skills, and nurturing a culture of compassion and collaboration. I can share insights on fostering inclusive cultures. Additionally, I bring a deep commitment to personal and professional development, enriching not only my mentorship but also benefiting their colleagues through shared knowledge and encouragement.
The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship
- Game based app development for education and Learning.
- Integrating emerging technologies - usage of AI machine learning approach in a web3 application.
- Instructional Technology Leadership, Public speaking and team leadership.
Mentorship Characteristic
- Focus on leadership skills building
- Present my current work to professionals in my industry
- Identify a short-term project I can work on at the partnering company
- Have exposure to specialized industry techniques
- Exposes me to new tools and platforms
Ideal Company Type
My ideal mentor would be from the tech industry, specifically a company focused on innovative and emerging technologies such as blockchain and Artificial Intelligence. The company should be medium to large-sized with a strong commitment to environmental and or social impact and diversity initiatives. An inclusive and collaborative culture that fosters growth, supports women in tech, and values compassionate leadership would be ideal. I seek a mentor who is experienced in scaling startups, promoting social inclusivity, and navigating the unique challenges faced by underrepresented groups in technology.
What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?
- Resilient
- Result oriented
- Serious
What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?
Drawing from my compassionate approach and tech startup experience, I anticipate enhanced strategic thinking and a more profound impact on my team and community. This mentorship offers a platform to amplify my voice in advocating for inclusive practices and fostering a supportive environment. Together, we can cultivate innovation, resilience, and meaningful change in both our respective careers and the global tech landscape. In conclusion, I am confident that through collaboration with a U.S.-based mentor, I shall refine my leadership skills, deepen my technical expertise, and broaden my cultural understanding.
After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?
This program shall impact me with knowledge and experience to transform people's lives. Through collaborations and partnerships with TechWomen network, I envision economically stable communities through women empowerment that also uplifts demographics of families. This is achievable in around 5 years after end of program. I will contribute to the development of policies on digital literacy that can be integrated in Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Institutions in Kenya where I am a part-time tutor. Digital literacy and upskilling will be a continuous improvement process aimed at enabling participants to use technology to generate income thereby improving their living standards.
