What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?
My most valuable contribution to the TechWomen mentorship will be my deep knowledge of developing and implementing STEM programs that empower young women. I excel at creating interactive and impactful educational activities and can share with my mentor the methodologies that have proven successful in my work. I offer a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing young women in STEM education. I'm eager to learn from this mentorship program expertise while sharing my own insights to create a mutually beneficial experience.
The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship
- To learn sustainable models for design thinking and an entrepreneurship incubation lab due to my desire to establish skills/tech business incubation labs to promote the number of women entrepreneurs in northern Nigeria.
- To build sustainable networks and collaborations with professionals in my area of interests and to understand workable strategies for connecting my local communities with development opportunities
- I intend to learn and understand the STEM educational policies and strategies employed in the United States and brainstorm possible lessons to adopt and localize in Nigeria.
Mentorship Characteristic
- Participate in a skills-building course, either provided by my mentor’s company or identify a free resource online
- Focus on leadership skills building
- Focus on technical skills building
- Identify a short-term project I can work on at the partnering company
- Gets me involved in day-to-day activities of the mentor and partnering company.
Ideal Company Type
My Ideal Mentor can come from any culture background but someone with robust experience in STEAM education and initiatives and design thinking. I desire my mentor to work in the startup- development or talent incubation industry. I love to have productive conversations with a mentor who experienced learning challenges growing up and how she was able to work through these challenges. It will be good to also have a mentor who can share experiences around running community based Organizations.
What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?
- Innovative
- Dedicative
- Emphatic
What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?
Collaborating with a U.S.-based mentor will significantly enhance my career by providing global perspectives and advanced knowledge in STEAM education. This mentorship will develop my skills in cutting-edge technology and innovative teaching methodologies, expanding my professional network and opening opportunities for local and international collaborations. The insights gained will help me implement best practices as an educator and mentor, fostering a greater impact on marginalized youth and girls' STEM education in my community. Moreover, this experience will position me as a leader in bridging the tech education gap for marginalized women.
After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?
The Fellowship offers valuable resources, knowledge, and a global network to drive social change in Nigeria and Africa. I will leverage these to strengthen my community engagements, fostering a vibrant technopreneur community to bridge gender gaps in digital skills and entrepreneurship in Northern Nigeria. Collaborating with local organizations, I aim to create sustainable mentorship networks for young women in STEM, empowering them to pursue technology careers. I also plan to expand digital training to university and pre-university girls. I'll share fellowship insights through Girl-Thinkers Forums and the She-Tech Fellowship, promoting inclusive tech development and equal opportunities in STEM.
