What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?
My most valuable contribution to the TechWomen mentorship will be my extensive experience in observational astrophysics and data analysis and my commitment to interdisciplinary innovation. I can offer fresh perspectives on integrating engineering solutions, specifically in developing kinetic inductance detectors. Additionally, my background in mentoring and leading diversity initiatives, such as the 'Women In Sciences' club, allows me to share effective strategies for fostering inclusivity and supporting young researchers. My global network and insights into educational improvements can also provide valuable connections and ideas for my mentor and their colleagues.
The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship
- Hone leadership skills such as cross-industry communication and collaboration, confidence and public speaking.
- Gain exposure to academic strategies and program improvements that will help me to refine my teaching methods and develop educational programs for future physics teachers.
- Expand my expertise in engineering topics and the role of data analysis and machine learning in 3D visual data.

My ideal mentor has experience in teaching and has occupied some key positions in academia such as department head, dean etc. My ideal mentor has been involved in or has been a PI of a technical project that requires cross-disciplinary communication skills. The mentor is aware of the difficulties of being a faculty in research-intensive institutes or universities, where high-impact research is continuously required. My ideal mentor is also aware of the career barriers linked to parenthood.

What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?
I hope that my collaboration with a U.S.-based mentor will impact my career by expanding my expertise into the engineering field and enhancing my ability to develop innovative detectors for astronomy. Through this mentorship, I aim to gain insights into advanced engineering practices, which will enable me to bridge astrophysics and engineering effectively. Additionally, the exposure to different academic strategies and program improvements will help me refine my teaching methods and curriculum design, ultimately benefiting my students. This experience will also strengthen my global network, opening up new opportunities for international collaborations and advancing my contributions to science and education.
After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?
My professional goal is to become a specialist in polarimetric detectors, pioneering advancements in astronomical research as the leading astrophysicist in Kazakhstan. As I embark on this journey, I recognize the crucial role that leadership skills play in navigating the intricate landscape of astrophysics and academia. The TechWomen mentorship program represents an opportunity for me to acquire the leadership skills and confidence necessary to pursue my professional goals. By participating in this program, I aim to not only advance my career in astrophysics but also contribute significantly to the development of physics education in Kazakhstan.
