What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?
With my profound understanding, domain knowledge and cultural experience, I can offer unique perspectives and ideologies across various technical and non-technical aspects. My in-depth knowledge of the African context allows me to bring a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities specific to the region. Whether it is developing innovative solutions tailored to local needs or fostering inclusive practices, I can contribute valuable insights and strategies. I believe that my diverse background will enable me to bring fresh perspectives to the table and drive positive change within different sectors.
The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship
- How to influence policies as a tech stakeholder in my home country.
- How to create pathways to successful fundraising.
- How to manage and handle engineering teams.
Mentorship Characteristic
- Attend company-wide meetings and/or team meetings
- Visit an office or attend a site-visit
- Participate in a skills-building course, either provided by my mentor’s company or identify a free resource online
- Present my current work to professionals in my industry
- Expand on a project that I’m working on in my current role at home
Ideal Company Type
I would prefer a company that has a strong track record in the startup ecosystem. This would allow me to learn from mentors who have firsthand experience navigating the challenges and opportunities specific to startups, including fundraising, scaling and building a sustainable business model. It would be beneficial to work at a company operating in a related industry, such as fintech or financial services. This would allow me to gain industry-specific knowledge, learn about emerging trends and technologies, and understand how successful companies in the sector tackle challenges and drive innovation.
What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?
- Resilient
- Ambitious
- Enthusiastic
What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?
It offers me an expanded network, cross-cultural perspective, guidance on scaling, exposure to best practices, and confidence and empowerment. It provides access to global connections, potential investors and partners. Learning from a diverse background will enhance my problem-solving skills and adaptability. Scaling guidance from a competitive market like the U.S. will aid my decision-making. Exposure to cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices will improve my software engineering skills. Working with a mentor who is supportive will empower me as a female founder to navigate biases, build resilience and inspire other women in the tech industry.
After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?
Participating in the TechWomen program will grant me national visibility and credibility, enabling me to acquire the resources needed to expand the Nkwa app's reach and impact. Since 2020, my team and I have organized financial education events to empower individuals, especially women and underrepresented groups. I aim to continue these workshops and training sessions, sharing the knowledge gained during the program. I will establish collaborations between organizations in my home country and the TechWomen network, facilitating knowledge exchange, joint projects and research initiatives.
