What will be your most valuable contribution to your TechWomen mentorship?
My combination of a friendly approach to teaching to produce high profile students, impactful research outputs and successful outreach to women and girls will benefit my mentor. I also bring a disciplined work ethic and ability to share the history of my success stories and what contributed to these. I can teach my mentor how to develop curriculum, writing skills, academic administration and management, and demonstrate how to use research abilities to spur creativity. These qualities, along with my dedication, can enhance my mentor's skill set and help their colleagues by developing best practices and knowledge.
The Top Three Things I Would Like to Learn or Experience During my Mentorship
- Use of technology to develop teaching tools, lecture materials and create learning applications
- Use of technology to bring solutions for food security with emphasis on women farmers, climate and other environmental issues
- Use of technology to develop solutions in energy availability
Mentorship Characteristic
- Attend company meetings
- Have exposure to the company culture
- Identify workshops or certificate programs to further my learning after the program has ended
- Expand on a project that I’m working on in my current role at home
- Exposes me to new tools and platforms
Ideal Company Type
An experienced professional in the agriculture technology industry whose focus is on energy renewal, gender equality, climate change resilience and food security would be my dream mentor. Ideally, they would work for a medium-sized or large-sized organization. They would represent an environment of creativity, cooperation, and social responsibility, and they would have a history of executing successful programs at the nexus of gender dynamics, climate change and agriculture. Their knowledge would include the development and application of strategies to address challenges in these areas.
What are three adjectives that best describe you in the work place?
- Determined
- Reliable
- Creative
What impact will your mentorship have on your career and professional path?
Working as a lecturer with a mentor situated in the United States will give me the opportunity to use tech-driven solutions to transform my teaching style. In order to create engaging learning environments and raise student engagement, I hope to include cutting-edge resources and digital platforms into my curricula. I hope to encourage young girls to pursue STEM fields particularly in agriculture. I hope to obtain valuable knowledge and resources to support diversity and inclusion in STEM education by utilizing my mentor's networks and experience. This will help to shape a more inventive and diverse future for agriculture.
After participating in the TechWomen program, how will you leverage your mentorship experience to make an impact in your home country?
I will intensify the outreach and a mentorship program already launched in secondary schools through career talks, storytelling, YouTube and social media channels, partnering with successful agriculturists and TechWomen alumnae to promote farming and stimulating students' interest. I will collaborate with schools to re-introduce agric-school clubs where students will be exposed to agripreneurship. I will replicate the TechWomen program by setting up a mini-tech girls club to mentor girls in agriculture. I will create an application and online agribusiness-learning platform to reach about 5 million girls, publish e-books in local-language, generating subscription-based revenues and profits to aid indigent students interested in agriculture.
