Fellows lead farmers outreach for food & economic security
On February 28, 2025, Fellows Adanna Henri-Ukoha (Nigeria, 2024) and Ijeoma Vincent-Akpu (Nigeria, 2017) led an outreach program for women farmers in Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State, Nigeria. The initiative aimed to enhance agricultural productivity and food security by equipping over 80 women with the knowledge and resources to farm smarter with sustainable farming practices, funding opportunities, and cooperatives to improve access to markets, farm inputs, and credit facilities.
As part of the effort, Ijeoma’s NGO, Hope in the Jungle Initiative, distributed improved varieties of farm inputs to the farmers. Hope in the Jungle, a women-led community-based organization, was inspired by Ijeoma’s experience with her mentor in the TechWomen program. Since its founding, the initiative has empowered indigent youths and women in underserved Niger Delta communities through vocational training, scholarships, and mentorship.
